2. SCOPE OF WORKS
2.1 General Description
The scope and purpose of this method statement is to outline the general
requirements and precautionary measures which should be taken into
consideration during painting works to ensure that works are according to the
drawings, standards and project specification.

2.4
Site Planning and Preparation
2.4.1
Prior to start
the work, an execution clearance will be obtained from MEP & Site Engineers
to ensure proper coordination. Proper planning of
execution as per area of installation shall be made.
2.4.2
Before painting
commences all surfaces in the work area are to be washed and scrubbed clean of
debris and every possible precaution taken to keep down dust. No paint is to be
applied to surfaces structurally or superficially damp and all surfaces must be
ascertained to be free from condensation, efflorescence, etc., before the
application of each coat.
2.4.3
All items not
required to be painted (e.g., ironmongery) are first to be fitted and then
removed or covered before any painting preparation commences. The fittings
shall be refixed in position when all painting is
completed.
2.4.4
Brushes, pails,
kettles, etc., used in carrying out the work are to be clean and free from
foreign matter. They are to be thoroughly cleaned before being used for
different types or classes of material.
2.4.5
The surface is
first to be scraped to remove mortar splashes, etc., and then made good,
cutting out all defective work and repairing with plaster or render of the same
type as previously used.
2.4.6
The surface is
then to be sanded using progressively finer grades of paper until perfectly
smooth.
2.4.7
Wipe the surface
area with dry rug to remove all dust or clean by compressor.
Parking Area Walls
2.5.1
Follow the
approved painting system as per specification.

2.5.2
Prepare a
mock-up sample of the complete system and submit to consultant for inspection
and approval prior to proceed with the full works.
2.5.3
Application of
one coat Primer (as per approved paint system) shall be applied after the substrate moisture content is attained in order not
to affect the performance of the system.
2.5.4
Ensure that
substrate is free of any voids or uneven surface prior to application of
primer. Frequent visual inspection must be conducted in all areas.
2.5.5
Apply first
& second coat of top coat (as per approved paint system) as
per the approved color.
2.5.6
Finish coats
will be applied as an even film over all exposed surfaces, avoiding brush
marks, sags, runs and other defects. Where two finish coats are specified the
second coat shall be applied within 12 hours of the first.
2.5.7
Fence off the
areas from traffic workers until the paint is fully dry. Put warning sign at
appropriate locations.
Parking Ceilings
2.5.8
Ensure that all joint of cement board is covered
with joint compound with joint tape to ensure it will be free of cracks.
2.5.9
Application of
one coat Primer (as per approved paint system) shall be applied after the substrate moisture content is attained in order not
to affect the performance of the system.
2.5.10
Ensure that
substrate is free of any voids or uneven surface prior to application of
primer. Frequent visual inspection must be conducted in all areas or apply 38810-11630 Maestro Pro Filler if applicable.
2.5.11
Apply first
& second coat of top coat (as per approved paint system) as
per the approved color.
2.5.12
Finish coats
will be applied as an even film over all exposed surfaces, avoiding brush
marks, sags, runs and other defects. Where two finish coats are specified the
second coat shall be applied within 12 hours of the first.
2.5.13
Fence off the
areas from traffic workers until the paint is fully dry. Put warning sign at
appropriate locations.
Field
Quality
a. Ensure that substrate
moisture content is properly attained.
b. Ensure the evenness
of painted walls.
c.
Ensure that approved paint material is use on site.
d. Supervise
and ensure the Quality and acceptable workmanship.
Housekeeping
a.
Clean exposed
surfaces of dirt, stains, mortar splashes and other blemishes.
b.
Working areas
will be kept clean by disposing the waste materials at the designated work areas.
